The Education Centre was launched in the early eighties to offer the Cathedral to children as part of their cultural heritage and as an educational resource. Starting from small beginnings, it has grown and grown so that now about 15,000 children from all over the country use the Centre’s services each year. In 1988 the Education Centre became an independent Educational Trust – Charity No. 299317. The Education Officer runs the Centre with the help of three other experienced and qualified teachers and an administrative assistant. This core of five staff is supported by 35 trained volunteers. Many of these volunteers are themselves trained teachers; others simply love the Cathedral and are natural communicators with children. Without their time and expertise which they give so freely, it would be impossible to run the Education Centre.
All Education Centre staff and volunteers have been CRB checked in line with current legislation.
