This adapted version of 'A Guide For Teachers' provides useful background information for schools planning to visit St Albans Cathedral, including details of our Trails and Workshops. If your school or group would like to receive a copy of the Guide, please contact the Education Office using the Contact Page.
The
award-winning Education Centre at St Albans Cathedral exists to offer the Cathedral
as an educational resource right across the Curriculum. Working mainly with
school groups, it provides a wide range of trails and practical workshops devised
to tie in with National Curriculum demands.
From maths to history, from technology to English, the possibilities provided
by the Cathedral are endless and are taken up by the Education Centre team in
original and imaginative ways. Led by experienced teachers, the team works with
groups of all ages and backgrounds from this
country and beyond, and welcomes those from special schools. It enjoys adapting
and developing trails and workshops and is always happy to devise to order!
Through
use of story; artefact; costume; role-play; an emphasis on asking rather than
telling; and through the building itself; those who work with children here
aim to engender much more than a working understanding of the topic in hand.
It is the Centre’s insistence on aiming for a deepening sense of wonder
that enriches its educational experiences and brings its visitors back year
after year.
The memory of their interested and expectant faces will keep me
hopeful for the rest of the year.
YEAR 7 CO-ORDINATOR
I would love to come again because it was enjoyable, unforgettable,
wonderful and an exciting place to visit.
